Calypso/Valpak Press Release
12 March 2007
Valpak have teamed up with Calypso and Preston City Council in a unique partnership to introduce recycling to secondary schools in the Preston area.
Valpak are the UK's largest packaging compliance scheme and through its Local Authority Support Programme, seeks to work with local authorities to increase recycling. For this project Valpak have teamed up with one of their clients, Calypso to trial this exciting recycling service in schools.
The service will involve the collection and recycling of segregated cans and bottles, which complements the council's existing recycling initiatives.
Calypso are one of the few drinks suppliers whose products are accepted in schools under the new healthy eating initiative and Richard Cooke from Calypso states "It's exciting to offer this added value service to schools to complement our healthy drinks products".
Preston City Council is excited about the project, and Debbie Derbyshire (Waste Management officer) believes "This project compliments our environmental education programme for children in the area who we see as being the next generation of recyclers".
The project is due to run for six month and if successful the project may be rolled out to other authority areas, if partnerships are agreed.
