Valpak release Code of Practice for Green Dot®
March 2009
Valpak UK Limited have issued a
Code of Practice for
the use of the Green Dot trademark in the UK, following concerns in the press about
the consumer perception of the logo.
The Green Dot® is a highly recognised symbol in many European
countries, showing a commitment from the companies adopting the emblem to meet their
obligations under the Packaging Waste Directive. However, it bears no such significance
in the UK and Valpak have worked alongside Trading Standards to help produce this
guidance document so that producers and consumers can better understand its meaning.
Valpak Chief Executive Steve Gough said, 'Valpak works to protect
the use of the Green Dot trademark in the UK, and the work with Trading Standards
will help to further promote this. Companies in the UK thinking of putting the trademark
on their packaging should consider why they are wishing to do so,' he added 'The
Code of Practice document will promote clarification for the use and meaning of
the trademark for companies within the UK.'
The
Code of Practice document for use of the Green Dot® trademark in the UK is available
on the Valpak website www.valpak.co.uk
